Great Food. Great Stories. Great People.

One of our favorite things about running Captain Crazy’s Snack Shack is discovering small food makers who are doing things their own way.
Not because they’re the biggest.
Not because they’re the trendiest.
But because you can feel the people behind the product.
That’s exactly how we felt when we discovered Dave’s Sweet Tooth.

From the Firehouse to Kitchens Across America
Every great food company seems to start with someone making something they simply loved to share.
For Dave Chmielewski, it was toffee.
A retired Detroit firefighter, Dave began making his almond toffee in his home kitchen for family and friends. Before long, people weren’t just asking for more—they were calling the house to order it.
His son Andrew recognized there was something special and, in 2011, helped turn Dad’s recipe into a business that today ships nationwide while staying true to its roots.
We love stories like that.

Handmade Still Means Something
If you’ve followed Captain Crazy’s for any length of time, you know we’re a little obsessed with craftsmanship.
We appreciate companies that choose the harder path because it produces a better product.
Dave’s Sweet Tooth still makes its toffee in small batches using simple ingredients—real butter, real sugar, real milk chocolate, and hand-sliced almonds. They proudly avoid assembly lines, microwaves, and shortcuts because consistency matters more than speed.
That philosophy feels very familiar to us.
At Captain Crazy’s, we labor over our own proprietary flavor infusion process before dry roasting every batch of nuts. Different product. Same mindset.
Personality You Can Taste
Let’s be honest…
Some food brands sound like they were written by lawyers.
Dave’s Sweet Tooth sounds like real people.
They call their company “old-fashioned.”
They joke about resisting “just one more bite.”
They share stories about the ups and downs of running a small business.
It’s refreshing.
As fellow small business owners, we appreciate brands that let customers see the humans behind the products.

Why We Carry It
We don’t add products to Captain Crazy’s Snack Shack just to fill shelf space.
We look for companies we’d be proud to recommend to our own friends and family.
Dave’s Sweet Tooth checks those boxes:
- Small family-owned business
- Handmade in small batches
- Quality ingredients
- A great founder story
- Products that make terrific gifts—or disappear mysteriously from your pantry
Sometimes that’s all the reason we need.
Supporting Small Makers Matters
Every purchase from a small food maker supports families, employees, local communities, and a tradition of craftsmanship that’s becoming harder to find.
Whether it’s handcrafted toffee from Michigan or flavor-infused roasted nuts from our kitchen here in Florida, these businesses share something in common:
They care deeply about what they make.
And we think that’s worth celebrating.
So here’s to Dave, Andrew, and everyone at Dave’s Sweet Tooth.
We’re glad you’re part of the Snack Shack family.
